The municipality of Pelt has fallen victim to a cyberattack on eSignFlow, the digital signature module of software supplier Vanden Broele. Hackers gained limited access to personal data of residents and employees.

Late last week, a hacker managed to breach eSignFlow, the signature module of software supplier Vanden Broele. eSignFlow allows documents to be signed digitally. The breach gave unauthorized access to certain data. The municipality of Pelt has recently received an overview of the situation.
A total of 324 documents were accessed, addressed to 186 residents. None of these documents were opened or downloaded. However, the names and birth dates of the individuals involved could be viewed. Affected residents will be personally notified by letter. Additionally, the hacker obtained the email addresses of 95 municipal employees.
The municipality warns of potential phishing messages. People may receive communications appearing to be from a Pelt municipal employee, asking them to sign something, log in, or provide data. Citizens are advised to be vigilant with unexpected emails, SMS messages, or phone calls regarding documents, signatures, or payments. Do not click on hyperlinks or open attachments if in doubt. In such cases, contact the municipality directly at 011 94 94 94.
It is emphasized that users should never share their itsme codes, ID card PIN, or passwords, even with someone claiming to be from the municipality of Pelt.
The supplier, Vanden Broele, has since secured the application, making it safe for use again.
