Peer is once again participating in the Night of Darkness this coming Saturday, October 10. Lights will be turned off from 7 PM to raise awareness for more conscious energy consumption and the impact of light pollution.
During this initiative, Fluvius will switch off both monument lighting and public lighting. This will take place between 7 PM and 11 PM, after which the lights will be turned back on.
The necessity for this action stems from the excessive amount of lighting. Light that shines upwards disrupts nocturnal nature and can be harmful to humans, animals, and plants. Light nuisance and light pollution can cause sleep disorders and other health problems in people.
Furthermore, this campaign also encourages more conscious and efficient energy use.
The organizers encourage citizens to participate by turning off their own lights and enjoying the starry sky during the Night of Darkness.
