The Deusterstraat in Peer, a frequently used connection road between Peer and Oudsbergen, has fully reopened after a year of extensive works. The project, which began exactly one year ago, was completed entirely according to schedule, enhancing traffic safety and comfort for both motorized traffic and cyclists.
New, 2-meter wide bicycle paths have been constructed on both sides of the road. The carriageway itself has received a new asphalt layer. Safe crossing points for cyclists have been installed at the intersections with Stevenstraat and Erpekommerweg.
Furthermore, a separate sewage system was installed. The opportunity was also taken to renew the water mains, natural gas network, electricity grid, and telecommunication lines. In the coming months, trees will be planted along the route.
This investment is part of city of Peer's ambition to create 50 kilometers of new or renovated cycle paths in the coming years. Stad Peer acted as project manager, collaborating with Fluvius, the Province of Limburg, and the Flemish Region. Willemen Infra was responsible for the construction of the sewage system, cycle paths, and roadway, while GWL handled the utility line works.
