During the Week Against Poverty, the municipality of Houthalen-Helchteren is organizing several events to raise awareness about poverty. From Wednesday, October 14 to Sunday, October 18, theater performances and a lecture are scheduled.
On Wednesday, October 14 at 10 AM, 'De Blijvers' will be presented at the market at NAC. This theater walk is the result of ten workshops where Cie Tartaren sought out actors without theater experience from local associations. On Saturday, October 17 at 2 PM, the performance will be repeated at Vredelaan.
On Sunday, October 18 at 3 PM, social worker Michelle Ginée will give a lecture at the library. With nearly twenty years of experience in the social sector, she will address injustice and name structural problems.
On Tuesday, October 20 at 1:15 PM, the performance 'De Kansendans' will be staged at Cultuurhuis Casino, Varenstraat 22a. This solo performance, by actress Stefanie Moens, is based on a true story about poverty and equality, comparing the life of someone who grew up in poverty with that of a middle-class aid worker.
On Saturday, October 17, the World Day for the Eradication of Poverty, poverty will be made visible together. The call is to hang a white sheet with a knot from your window to jointly fight against poverty.
