Through the project (Be)LEVEN in het PARK, the city of Hamont-Achel intends to transform the centrally located site of the former Ursuline convent in Hamont-Centrem into a future-proof location where meeting, leisure, heritage, and green spaces converge. The call for design teams was launched via the Flemish Master Builder.
A key step within (Be)LEVEN in het PARK involves the complete renovation of the existing convent wing. This will make way for a central meeting space that will include the local service center, multipurpose rooms for socio-cultural activities and meetings, hobby rooms, and a catering facility.
The city aims to connect the various facilities on and around the Ursuline site, paying particular attention to the existing heritage, such as the Ursuline Chapel and the historic piano rooms. Greenery and accessibility also play a significant role, with the intention to optimally align the convent garden and buildings and create pleasant, easily accessible connections, including with the city park.
The ambition is to create a warm, low-threshold place where young and old can meet, engage in activities, and feel welcome, thereby allowing the Ursuline site to grow into a vibrant hub for leisure and encounters, both today and in the future.
Interested design teams can find the full project description and details, and submit their applications, via the website of the Flemish Master Builder.
