The Reinpadstraat in Genk is celebrating its tenth anniversary as a bicycle street this year, the very first in Limburg. The street was transformed a decade ago, bringing a pleasant change for both residents and cyclists.

The Reinpadstraat is blowing out 10 candles this year as a bicycle street. Ten years ago, a large part of the street was transformed into the very first bicycle street in Limburg. A special anniversary for the street and its residents. One of them is Judith, who cycles through it with pleasure several times a week.
Judith lives at one end of the Reinpadstraat and runs her business Cling at the other. "Cycling from home to my business is the most normal thing in the world for me. Even when I deliver small orders to clients, I regularly hop on my bike. And because cars drive slower here, cycling is extra pleasant. I wouldn't mind more bicycle streets!", laughs Judith.
In a bicycle street, cyclists get more space. They may use the full width of the lane, and motor vehicles are not allowed to overtake them. Furthermore, there is a maximum speed of 30 km/h for everyone. This makes cycling much more comfortable and safer.
