The Resident Engagement team of Wonen in Limburg organized 'Chair Actions' this summer in sixteen neighborhoods across Sint-Truiden, Nieuwerkerken, Gingelom, and Tongeren-Borgloon, aiming to bring residents closer together.

Between June and September, the focus was on meeting. Using a simple deck chair as a recognizable symbol, residents were invited to sit down, get to know their neighbors, and share a story, memory, or warm message. The chair became more than just a place to sit; it evolved into a spot where conversations started, experiences were exchanged, and new contacts were made. Residents could fill out a card with a personal message for a chance to win a prize.
The Chair Actions deliberately targeted small-scale housing complexes and neighborhoods. This approach proved highly successful, as residents in smaller living environments often know each other better, leading to spontaneous conversations and a greater sense of ease. This allowed staff to engage in personal conversations, listen to neighborhood concerns, and gather valuable insights for the future. Furthermore, this format required less logistical preparation, allowing the focus to remain entirely on what truly matters: meeting residents, listening, and creating connections.
Although participation offered a chance to win a prize, the primary goal of the Chair Actions was about fostering encounters. Each location featured a cozy atmosphere with a small treat. These informal moments led to spontaneous meetings between neighbors who had known each other for years, as well as between residents meeting for the first time.
The numerous filled-out cards, warm stories, and positive feedback highlight the need for connection. Wonen in Limburg continues to invest in initiatives that bring residents closer together, recognizing that strong neighborhoods are built not only by constructing homes but also by connecting people.
