Since October, ten cigarette butt bins have been installed in Houthalen-Centrum. An initial count after two weeks shows that 4 out of 5 cigarette butts are already ending up in the bins, indicating a successful start.

On October 19, the municipal executive conducted a baseline measurement at ten locations in the center of Houthalen. At that time, there were 673 cigarette butts on the ground. In early November, we counted 423 butts: 337 in the bins and only 86 on the ground. Thus, the bins are immediately doing their job.
A new count will follow every two weeks, allowing for quick adjustments if necessary. This way, together with the neighborhood and the retailers, we continue to work towards a clean city center.
