In the districts of Pennepoel and Caputsteen in Mechelen, the initial renovation works within the framework of the Buurtboost project have commenced. A total of 56 families have already approved quotes for work on their roofs, facades, windows, and/or doors. Thanks to this collaborative approach, residents receive personal guidance and up to 10% discount on the works.
Buurtboost assists residents in making their homes more energy-efficient and comfortable. They receive free in-home advice and help with applying for quotes. The city also handles a portion of the administrative tasks, such as submitting a joint permit application for exterior facade insulation.
The first roof and facade works have already started. The installation of windows and doors is scheduled for the autumn, while works requiring a permit are planned for the spring.
In addition to renovations, Buurtboost also focuses on greening the neighborhood. Residents can opt for a tile garden or a green ribbon to make the area more pleasant and better prepared for warm summers.
Residents of Pennepoel or Caputsteen who have not yet registered can do so until the end of the year for a second round. They will receive free in-home renovation advice, and technical and financial support is also available. For works requiring a permit, a separate process is necessary, as the existing joint application is no longer accessible.
This support is offered free of charge thanks to European projects such as LIFE – REFINED, Interreg Flanders-Netherlands – Uitbreek Doorbraak, and HORIZON – Water4All.
