Mechelen and the Ukrainian city of Lviv, official sister cities since 2024, are organizing a football match to underscore the cooperation between the two cities and offer support to those affected in Lviv.
FC Karpaty, a club from Lviv competing in Ukraine's top football league, will face KV Mechelen. The match kicks off at 5 PM. Tickets are priced at 10 euros for adults, 5 euros for youths aged twelve to eighteen, and free for children under twelve.
All proceeds from the match will go to Foundation Mechelen, which will use the funds to expand a center for traumatized war veterans in Lviv. This center, opened in June 2025, assists survivors of captivity and torture with their mental recovery.
In addition to ticket sales, an auction will be held. The players from KV Mechelen will wear personalized jerseys featuring the slogan "One cause, two cities, one match". These shirts will also be auctioned for the good cause.
The collaboration between Stad Mechelen and KV Mechelen, along with Foundation Mechelen and the supporters' federation De Malinwa, highlights the strong bond between the two sister cities in areas such as security, healthcare, culture, and sports.
