The 'Mercurius' Archaeology working group from Grobbendonk has been nominated for the Heritage Award 2026 from the province of Antwerp. Their project 'HERE COME THE ROMANS AGAIN! Roman Weekend 2025' is one of eleven nominated initiatives that make heritage visible in a contemporary way. The public can now vote for the winner of the Public Choice Award.
Last year, the Mercurius project brought the local Roman past to life at the historic castle farm. Volunteers organized an exhibition featuring archaeological finds and a display case from the Provincial Archaeological Depot. The Roman Weekend offered visitors an engaging look into the region's rich history by linking architectural heritage with discoveries from the soil.
Voting for the Public Choice Award is open until Friday, October 30th at 12:00 PM. You can cast your vote online via the voting form on the province of Antwerp website or by sending an email to erfgoed@provincieantwerpen.be. A vote can reward the volunteers of the Mercurius working group for their dedication.
