The city of Geel places great importance on a clean living environment. In observance of the Week of Enforcement, actions have been organized for years to evaluate and adjust policies.
Community wardens, employees from the Werkplaats (Workshop), and the neighborhood teams of police zone Geel-Laakdal-Meerhout are collaborating. In the coming period, they will inspect ditches and verges, street bins, and graveyard containers for illegal dumping. They will also distribute pocket ashtrays and raise awareness about litter by approaching people or placing signs where litter has been cleaned up.
Police officers will focus on areas where students often eat lunch and will check if dog owners carry dog waste bags.
Residents can contribute to a cleaner Geel by reporting illegal dumping. City employees usually clean it up by the end of the next working day.
Interested individuals can also volunteer as a 'netheidsverantwoordelijke' (cleanliness responsible person) to collect litter in their neighborhood.
If a glass or textile container is full, visitors are asked not to place their bags or boxes next to it, as this is also considered illegal dumping. It is advised to go to another collection point or return later. The exact locations of all containers in Geel can be found on the city's website.
