The municipality of Bonheiden regularly dedicates a morning to guiding primary school students through the town hall. This time, the third-graders from GeBo primary school were the guests. In a playful yet informative manner, municipal employees explained the significance of their services to the community.
The students visited, among other places, the offices of the local police, the spatial planning department, the technical services, the environmental department, and the library. A wedding ceremony was also inaugurated per class by our mayor.
During the visit to the communications department, the students were invited to type out their experiences. Class 3A (Bas & Thimo) shared: "We went to the library and behind the scenes. We visited the sports department and that was very fun!" Class 3B (Fenna & Matthis) reported: "We went to the environmental department and sorted waste. Lucas and Juliette got married."
The municipality of Bonheiden considers it important to playfully inform children about the ins and outs of municipal governance. By immersing them in the adult world, they will better understand where and why certain decisions are made later on.
